Adding a New Network Connection

In some cases, the Dashboard software provided by your mobile ISP does not recognise the Merlin card. We are working with Novatel Wireless and mobile ISP's to provide a satisfactory solution to this problem, but in the interim period, it is possible to configure your Internet access manually using the Windows New Network Wizard. The process for Windows 2000 is shown below, it is very similar in Windows XP.

From the "Network and Dial-up Connections" dialog, click "Make New Connection". The following dialog should appear..., click "Next"

Select "Dial-up to the Internet" and click "Next"

Select "I want to set up my Internet connection Manually..." and click "Next"

Select "I connect through a phone line and a modem" and click "Next"

Enter "*99***3#" in the Telephone number box and make sure that the "Use area code and dialing rules" is disabled, then click "Next"

Enter the correct Username and Password for your ISP (web and web are correct for Orange UK, other networks will have different authentication parameters, contact your mobile ISP for the appropriate settings) and click "Next", and "Finish" on the final dialog box.

Open the Device Manager and under "Modems" double click on the "Novatel Wireless UMTS Modem Primary Port" entry.

Select "Advanced" and enter the appropriate cdgcont values for your ISP (at+cgdcont=3,"IP","orangeinternet" is the correct APN setting for Orange UK, contact your mobile ISP for the appropriate settings) and click "Ok"

You should now be able to connect to the Internet using your Merlin card and this new connection.
